Everyone Is Blowing the Trumpet Recently

Lately, from the erudite intellectuals with sound knowledge of the sutras and sastras down to the ignorant and uneducated street-peddlers and itinerant servants, everyone is discussing whether their teachers are illegitimate or sagacious, be them the virtuous teachers that give them dialectics or lectures, the Vajra Acharyas that render empowerments to them, or the Dzogchen Masters that give them pithy instructions. They even went as far as making exaggerated remarks and spreading them out.

However, it has never occurred to these people that, whether or not, they themselves, were qualified disciples. I find this phenomenon absurd and at the same time farcical.

It is a fact that, tulkus, khenpos, vajra gurus or sagacious masters of today, may only have possessed one virtuous bearing when they were supposedly to have embodied ten virtuous bearings to begin with.

But as disciples, one presumably need to have met ten criteria, and yet, it is worth questioning whether or not one has met even 0.1% of what’s required.

Under such a situation, can one still criticize whether this is a Dharma-abiding master and that one not?

When faced with these kinds of phenomena, shouldn’t we examine and reflect on ourselves?
