It Is Our Duty to Bring Sentient Beings Closer to Buddha

Sentient beings always think that they are a great distance apart from Buddha. Our duty in teaching Buddha Dharma and lecturing on Sutras is to bring sentient beings closer to Buddha, so that they can raise their hopes at and have faith in their chances of attaining Buddhahood. Teaching Buddha Dharma and lecturing on Sutras would truly benefit sentient beings, only if it helps to generate this sense of confidence in their minds.

If one only teaches about Buddha’s merit, Dharma’s extraordinariness, Buddhism being difficult to enter and its precepts being hard to observe, so much so that it sounds overly strict and ends up becoming impossible for us to relate, this would only serve to widen the gap further between Buddha and sentient beings.
