Thanks for the Teacher’s Affirmation and Encouragement

謝謝老師的肯定與鼓勵

Today, I sent my greetings to my teacher Khenchen Pema Sherab through lama Urgyen’s WeChat: “Happy New Year. I have recovered already.”

Teacher smiled happily and said to me: “You shall not change! You must continue adhering to your promises.” He repeated this three times.

At first, I couldn’t hear him clearly. He then said: “Your articles such as the one about Yogi and Yogini, are quite scathing, and can offend many people.”

I said: “Yes indeed, but I have to speak out. Now the Buddhism world is rife with chaos, yet no one steps forward and speaks out. If this continues, it will be equivalent to giving them our tacit acquiescence and even a stamp of approval of their wrongful deeds, so I cannot but open fire at them.”

The teacher said: “Chaos is now spreading everywhere within the Buddhism communities. Since you have such mental preparation for it, I can load off my mind.”

I said: “When the sun comes out, if it offends the eyes of owls, I can’t do much about it.”

Teacher said: “That is not a problem of the sun.”

I asked the teacher: “Do you read the articles I posted on WeChat?”

The teacher said: “Even though I have presbyopia now, I still put on my reading glasses, and conscientiously try to read as much as possible. Now I am old, and cannot respond as fast as before. You are still young, you have a quick mind and a gift of repartee, so try to voice out as much as possible.

Also, you must continue to live healthily. The unfulfilled wishes of the former Palyul Choktrul, the unfinished work of propagating Buddha Dharma and benefiting sentient beings, are waiting for you to complete; so you must continue to live healthily.

I am now 86 years old, even though a bit old, but in rather robust health.”

I answered: “You must take good care of your health as well. I pray for your longevity.” The teacher was very happy upon hearing this.

Later the teacher’s attendant appeared in the camera, smiled to me and said: “The best New Year’s present received by the teacher is hearing the news that you have recovered.”

I answered: “Yes, yes, my biggest wish is to be able to meet teacher soon. Tashi Delek!”

The scenario today reminds me of the bit by bit time spent during my childhood. The reason that I can write a few articles today is all because of the grace given by teacher.

I was not born smart and was not diligent enough growing up. It was not until the age of nine that I started learning how to write words, composition writing, Buddhism and so on. All of these are taught by the teacher. Such magnificent grace and benevolence, I wouldn’t be able to recompense within this lifetime. Therefore, I pray for teacher’s longevity, and wish that he will always teach me and other disciples.
