Life Prolonging Nectar Pills
A Dharma fellow on WeChat by the pen-named “Wishful Wheel” asked me for my thoughts on Covid-19.
I will briefly say a few words here.
Covid-19 is similar to a plague. This kind of plague has happened before in the past, and is prevalent now, and may break out and become prevalent again in the future.
This kind of epidemic disease comes from the shared-karma of sentient beings. However, the issue here is that the “shared” component to the shared-karma does not really exist.
For example, if a village lived only butchers, they would have all experienced the shared-karmic retribution of illness and short lifespan. These are facts judged by our observation, and from this angle, the assertion that there is the “shared” component to shared-karma can then be established.
As far as scientists are concerned, they can clearly explain the source of Covid-19, but when asked why such condition occurs, they become tongue-tied.
How then should we cope with this situation? First of all, we should comply with all the regulations set forth by the national health & disease control and its related institutes. Regarding this matter, our Tibetan masters such as Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche and Khenpo Tsultrim Lodrö, have already made repeated appeals, so there’s no need for me to make any further comments.
However, in terms of my own negligible experience, since the outbreak of the pandemic a year and a half ago, up until now, I have constantly tried to put my best efforts into practicing “Tonglen” (exchanging oneself with others) through breathing and arousing Bodhicitta.
As a result, all my disciples from home and abroad have not come across any problems related to the pandemic so far. I believe there will not be problems in the future as well.
Why is there such a belief? Because no matter what bitterness or happiness we encounter, we have entrusted ourselves fully to our gurus and the three jewels of refuge for they are authentic and infallible. As Buddha’s disciples, we must steadfastly believe in this without any doubt.
